When we reach the topping point of peak oil
depends on whether we have 1 or 2 trillion barrels of oil left.
the difference between 1 and 2 trillion barrels is seismic. It is roughly the difference between a full Lake Geneva and a half-full one, were that lake full of oil and not water. If 2 trillion barrels of oil or more indeed remain, the topping point lies far away in the 2030s. The "growing" and "cheap" parts of the oil-supply equation are feasible until then, at least in principle, and we have enough time to bring in the alternatives to oil. If only 1 trillion barrels remain, however, the topping point will arrive some time soon, and certainly before this decade is out. The "growing" and "cheap" parts of the oil-supply equation become impossible, and there probably isn't even enough time to make a sustainable transition to alternatives.

In fact, given the time frames with which offshore oilfields are developed and depleted, it seems certain that there will be nowhere near enough oil to meet the combined forces of depletion and demand between 2008 and 2012.
In 1956, a Shell geologist called M King Hubbert famously calculated that oil production in the "lower 48" states of America would peak in 1971.  HE WAS WRONG. Oil production in the "lower 48" states of America peaked in 1970.
The US is just short of halfway down the second half of the curve now.
In other words, it has used up some three-quarters of its original endowment of recoverable oil.
Given its almost total lack of attention to the efficiency with which oil is burned, the US becomes more dependent on foreign oil imports by the day.
The American pattern of historical oil discovery and production is only a loose guide to what is going on in the rest of the world. In the US, oil, once found, was pumped without much substantive effort at constraint. The curves for discovery and production are going to look different where conservative nationalised companies are doing the looking,...
Today, more than 60 out of the 65 countries possessing oil have passed their discovery topping points and 49 of them have passed their production topping points. The US has a particularly long gap between the two: 40 years (1930 to 1970). The UK has one of the shortest: 25 years (1974 to 1999).
This is because the first discoveries were made much later in the UK, when technology for both exploration and production were more advanced.
Growing supplies of British oil didn't last long, though. Britain is now a net oil importer just like the US.

Nor is there any comfort to be derived from gas. Gasfields deplete very differently from oilfields, gas being much more mobile than oil. It is normal for a gasfield to yield 70-80 per cent of its gas over its production lifetime, whereas an oilfield will typically yield only 35-40 per cent of its oil. Drillers normally set gas production far below the natural production capacity so as to give a long production plateau. But the danger in this is that the end of the production plateau comes abruptly, and without market signals.

Colin Campbell, a prominent early topper, estimates that the original global endowment of conventional gas was around 10,000 trillion cubic feet (equivalent to 1.8 trillion barrels of oil), of which about a quarter has been produced to date. He expects a global plateau in production of around 130 trillion cubic feet per year during the period 2015 to 2040, with production falling over a cliff beyond that.

Here is a suggested possibility of a proper response to retain your 
rights to not be searched and seized by the USA corporation or local 
agent offering to "protect" you.

Option of a possible response based upon my and others' understanding 
and reading of court findings revolving around exactly at what point 
you give up your Constitutional non-search & seizure rights:

In the real world, asserting your rights politely usually only works if 
your rights are respected by a higher-up who knows the legal score, and 
you  answer no question ever.  Not in detention, not in jail, ever. At 
some point someone somewhere in the chain knows this truthful 
information - while the practical full loss of all rights in an 
executive  dictatorship for our own good is not in effect.

"How are you today, sir?" This is a trained ploy to elicit 'proper' 
response without the officer even knowing why. He is not told the whole 
truth and is simply told to start the investigation by asking...so as 
to "be friendly."

Any answer or giving up of documents at any point makes you 
"participating in an investigation" - unless you answer ONLY in the 
form of a QUESTION.

Example: smile, and politely ask "Who is asking and why?" 
This immediately determines the encounter status and 
whether the person is acting in their private or public capacity.

If you ANSWER, you have automatically given up all rights. Once given 
up, they cannot be restored. Because "Once you testify in part you must 
testify in whole."

If taken against your will, you can come back later and win.

Be friendly, be polite.

"I respectfully do not consent to this encounter. If I had and gave you 
such documents can they be used against me in a court of law? 
Would you please inform your supervisor what I just said? Am I free to go?" 
(Immediately determines your status.)

• Designated Access Provider (DAP): This lets the people of Marin run their own Community Media Center and their Public, Education And Government (PEG) channels. 
• Capital Expense: The new community media center must be adequately funded for new and upgraded equipment and facilities over the life of the agreement. 
 • Operational Expense: A media center must have enough income to keep running. This can be provided by a viewer choice fee (less than $1 a month) on cable bills.
• FM Service on the cable must be guaranteed. In many parts of Marin cable is the only way people can hear FM.

When you exit at Lakshore Ave., you will be on Lake Park. Go straight
at the light (you'll see an OMNI store in front of you to the right),
crossing Lakeshore Ave. The GLNC will be a few storefronts down on your
right. Park on the street or turn left into free public parking under
the freeway across from GLNC. If you cross Grand Ave. (and the theater)
you've gone too far.

Part Two - February 1st, 7 - 10 pm
Overcoming Barriers to 9/11 Truth - Those familiar with the information
presented in part one know that a lack of evidence is not the limiting
factor in spreading 9/11 truth. Many people don't want to believe scary
stuff like that revealed by the reality of such things as stolen
elections and the truth of 9/11. This talk will look at the
psychological resistances to such truths, so we can better overcome
them. This talk will be shorter to allow more discussion time about
examples each of us have of the types of resistance we have encountered
in ourselves and others.

Part Three - February 8th, 7 - 10 pm
9/11 in Context: The Big Picture.  Using the 9/11 truth issue as a
touchstone, this discussion will look at the nature of the overall
changes we are going through that include other such unsettling
realities as the stolen elections, lies leading to war in Iraq, and the
response by our government to Katrina. By seeing these in the context
of a global awakening that we are all a part of, we can be more
effective working on the specific issues that have the most leverage to
facilitate this evolutionary process and thus create a better world.

Ken Jenkins has been a 9/11 truth activist for over four years. He was
a speaker at both the San Francisco and Toronto 9/11 Inquiries and has
produced numerous 9/11 DVD's. He is an award winning video and media
producer with an education in engineering, psychology and metaphysics.
He brings a multifaceted and balanced approach to the 9/11
investigation.
Ken is currently producing a series of DVD's of illustrated lectures by
David Ray Griffin, noted author of the books The New Pearl Harbor and
Omission and Distortions in the 9/11 Commission Report.

performance art, ritual dance, lion dancers, dragons, mask making,
unstoppable festive fun overload. 

We will be fully recreating the entire space and building it into a
lush bass temple that can hold the special vibe that this party is
known and loved for. Only 2 to 3 rooms throughout the night will be
used to keep the vibe more together. A full lounge area with organic
food, coconuts, and massage will help create that container. There is
so much creative juice and love going in to this party, I can already
taste the sweet nectar of the vibe.  

1015 Folsom has recently made large upgrades to all of their sound
systems. And it has been assured to me that the security will be on the
mellow tip for the evening. Just do not forget your ID, as there will
be nothing we can do about that

The 2005 Loveparade was a great success with well over 50,000 people 
spreading the love along Market Street and at Civic Center. The costs of 
the city fees and personel required for a downtown parade were huge however, 
so many groups are coming together to pay the remaining debts so that 
planning for the Loveparade San Francisco 2006 can proceed full steam ahead! 
For all those many people who forgot to give the $5 donation at the 
Loveparade gates, here is your chance to help make sure that Loveparade 
stays a yearly event in San Francisco, a city with an international 
reputation for Love in the streets. 

The SomArts Cultural Gallery is a non-profit art gallery and event space 
that hosted many seminal electronic dance and art parties until those were 
prohibited in 1996 because of permitting problems. Because of the 
importance of Somarts to the community, the SFLNC pushed the City to allow 
entertainment at SomArts and full time late night permits were granted in 
2003. Recently, Somarts completed a major building project to allow high 
occupancy for events, so the community is now coming together to help pay 
off some of SomArts construction loans! After almost ten years, Somarts 
will now be fully available to the community for special events! 

All equipment, talent and labor for these events is being donated by the 
community and all proceeds will be split evenly between Somarts and 
Loveparade San Francisco! 

While the DJ lineups are pretty much set for these events, we're still 
looking for volunteers for security, bartending, and setup and cleanup. 
There is also room for some art, visuals and performance.

I usually only teach intermediate once every two or three months, so if you are interested now is the time to jump in... Two intensive Sunday seminars from 12-2pm. This INTERMEDIATE LEVEL class provides a total of 4 hours of training. Designed for those who want to master more complex moves, create supple transitions and cultivate the awareness of a performer. All students who enroll must already have mastered all skills from beginner class. First meeting focuses on torso and arms. Second meeting focuses on off body moves including advanced jumps, spins, body rolls, tosses. These seminars take moves you already know and has you perform them on many other dimensions and angles. More challenging moves and tricks also provided. Emphasis is on creating more flow in transitions, integrating dance with your complex moves. Each evening will have a jam circle to close with performance critique by your peers. Hot music, great people, detailed instruction. Please join us for Bay Area Vegetarians first Vegan Food Party of 2006! 
 
This is a wonderful opportunity to start the New Year by sharing compassionate and cruelty-free foods with like-minded folks.  Everyone is welcome, both veg and non-veg people, members and non-members.  In fact, we encourage non-veg folks to attend so they can see the variety of wonderful vegan foods available. 
 
Our Vegan Food Parties are potluck-style, meaning each person should bring a vegan dish that provides six generous servings (or if there are two of you, one dish that serves 12, and so forth), a serving utensil, ingredient list, and your own place setting and beverage.  
 
Please share a homemade vegan dish with us -- it could be your favorite dish  when you were a new veg*n, the one to you always serve to non-veg friends, or simply one you enjoy making.  We also welcome folks to "animal test" new vegan recipes  -- you'll find many willing volunteers to try new vegan foods at our VFPs.

Leafleting, tabling, and protesting are great forms of advocacy to help animals and promote vegetarianism, but a great veg*n dish can speak volumes towards promoting veg*n foods.  Alex Bury will share strategies and tips useful towards creating veg*n dishes that are particularly appealing to your non-veg family and friends, as well as aspiring veg*ns.  She will demonstrate - live and in person! - how easy it is to create this type of dish. 
 
Alex Bury is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, where she learned all about cooking meat.  Now she is a vegan chef (formerly of Sparks restaurant in Guerneville), a full-time PETA staffer, and a chef instructor for the McDougall program.
 
This presentation is geared towards new or aspiring vegetarians as well as those wishing to use delicious food to promote vegetarianism.

This film is a video version of Eric Hufschmid's book, Painful  
Questions.  It provides an in-depth analysis of the Twin Towers'  
sctructure based on a scientific approach as well as careful  
observation and simple common sense.  Eric was the first person to  
bring the mysterious collapse of Building 7 to the attention of the  
public.  Building 7 was a 47-story building near the Twin Towers that  
disintegrated into dust in 7 seconds a few hours after the Towers  
fell.  Eric points out that the same demolition crew was hired to  
clean up the rubble of the World Trade Center and the rubble of the  
Oklahoma City bombing -- another cover up and inside job.  Eric takes  
a very close look at the Pentagon crash and points out a number of  
obvious facts that make the official story fall apart.

# Dick 'N Dubya: A Republican Outreach Cabaret Thurs, Fri, Sat Feb 2 - 25 8.00pm

Dubya (Amos Glick) and Dick (Ed Holmes) fresh from an extremely  
successful run at The Marsh Berkeley, during which they exerted their  
considerable talents to convert everyone in the audience into a card- 
carrying member of the Republican Party, are ready to try their luck  
in San Francisco.  The show is full of singing (yes, Dubya sings),  
dancing (yes, Dick dances), speeches (Dubya, much to Dick's  
consternation, has decided to write his own) and a raucous press  
conference where the audience asks the questions. It is rumored that  
Barbara Bush is so encouraged by her son's derring-do that she is  
flying out to assist him.

Ed Holmes, a navy veteran and San Francisco Mime Troupe member for  
nineteen years, instigated the annual St. Stupid's Day Parade, now in  
its 27th year.  Amos Glick, a San Francisco Mime Troupe member since  
1997, represented the troupe on the Lollapalooza '95 Tour doing  
political sketch comedy and guerrilla theater.  Masters of political  
satire, they honed their impersonations of Dick 'n Dubya during the  
Mime Troupe's outdoor shows.  Bill Allard (director) is a founding  
member of Duck's Breath Mystery Theater.  In 2004, he directed Merle  
Kessler and Raoul Brody in BROKE at The Marsh, San Francisco.

# ACTCM's Chinese New Year Celebration Sun Feb 5 12 noon to 5pm FREE!
 
American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) will be  
hosting a free event for the public on Sunday, February 5, 2006 from  
12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. The college will be offering free  acupuncture  
treatments,  massages, Tai Chi and Qi Gong workshops, and  
informational lectures.

A special performance by the Eastern Ways Martial Arts Lion Dance  
Team will kick off the event promptly at 12:30pm in the college's  
parking lot at 555 De Haro Street (at 18th in Potrero Hill). This  
performance will be a spectacular visual event. The Eastern Ways Lion  
Dance Team is known for its energetic and engaging performances and  
has performed all over Northern California and beyond. Lion Dancing  
is one of the oldest cultural arts of the Chinese people, dating back  
to the Tang Dynasty, around 800A.D.

Lecture topics will include: The History & Profession of Traditional  
Chinese Medicine, Relax Managing Stress & Pain, Staying Healthy this  
Winter: Preventing Colds & Flu, and Nurturing the Whole: Treating  
Women's Health Issues.

ACTCM will provide refreshments, free informaion, and certificates  
for discounted acupuncture treatments (new patients only). The event  
is free and open to the public.

American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a non-profit  
institution, is one of the nation's oldest and most prominent

A Lecture by T. Colin Campbell, PhD, Project Director of the China
Study and the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional
Biochemistry at Cornell University

Many in our society, perhaps most, do not appreciate the simple fact
that we are what we eat. We pay a huge price for this
misunderstanding. Many believe that the single most important
disabling budgetary factor in our society is the rising cost of health
care, more aptly known as disease care. Central to this difficulty is
our abject misunderstanding of nutrition, what it means, how it can be
used, how we study its effects, and how national policy on its effects
on health is developed. Using conservative figures, it is easy to
argue that the leading cause of death in the U.S. is our
misunderstanding of nutrition. As a result, we rely on drugs as a
means to health instead of food as a means to health. In brief, the
present system fosters wealth for the few at the expense of health for
the many.

Dr. Campbell, with his son Tom, is the author of the recently
published book The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of
Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet,
Weight Loss and Long-Term Health    see

The New York Times has recognized the study (known formally as the
China-Oxford-Cornell Diet and Health Project, a 20 year partnership
which surveyed diseases and lifestyle factors in rural China and
Taiwan) as the "Grand Prix of epidemiology." In The China Study, Dr.
Campbell details the connection between nutrition and heart disease,
diabetes, and cancer, and also its ability to reduce or reverse the

 Named one of the world's top ten parades, Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco is the largest celebration of its kind outside of Asia. Over 100 units will participate in the parade, many of the floats and specialty units will feature the theme of this year's Chinese zodiac sign. Nowhere in the world will you see a lunar new year parade with more gorgeous floats, elaborate costumes, ferocious lions, and exploding firecrackers. Some of the parade highlights include elaborately decorated floats, school marching bands, martial arts group, stilt walkers, lion dancers, Chinese acrobatics, the newly crowned Miss Chinatown USA and the Golden Dragon. The Golden Dragon is over 201 feet long and is always featured at the end of the parade as the grand finale and will be accompanied by over 600,000 firecrackers!

 Board of Supervisors' Chambers at Marin Civic Center. Lynn Woolsey will preside, Sen. Sheila Kuehl has been invited, and we hope to have numerous other legislators present. The object is to tell them what's wrong with our health-care system and to demand a system that works. There will be many people testifying. These hearings are being held around the country with the support of Rep. John Conyers; it's all part of building an irresistible groundswell for a single-payer system.
 This is all part of building the mass movement that we will require before we can hope that a single-payer system will pass. There are too many monied interests opposed to expect that mere good will and good sense could overthrow the disastrous system we have today. Like civil rights, like the anti-tobacco movement, we must first have a sea change in public thinking.

Overview
This 14th edition of the Digital Be-In combines its lineage of invention and cultural evolution marking the dawn of the digital age with the emerging green economy and sustainable culture movement. Producer Michael Gosney (whose Verbum magazine began the Digital Be-In during the late 1980s) developed the Paradox conferences on sustainable communities at Arcosanti, Arizona in 1997, 1999 and 2001  http://www.greencenturyinstitute.org/paradox.htm  and formed the Green Century Institute in San Francisco in 2002. Planetwork, founded in San Francisco by Jim Fournier and Elizabeth Thompson in 1998, fosters the creative application of digital tools for positive global change through a series of conferences and monthly forums in major cities. The Green Century Institute and Planetwork are working with several San Francisco Bay Area groups that were involved in the seminal World Environment Day week in San Francisco June 5–11, 2005  http://www.wed2005.org  in the development of this combination daytime symposium, evening rally/celebration and late night dance party. Congress demanded SOA be closed down. So they simply renamed it.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends. 
We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by the Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. Fill with spring water or tap water and store in safe places.
Start composting NOW. Build your soil.
Do not let "gardeners" remove your leaves. They become soil.
Flag down a tree trimming truck. Have them dump wood chips in your yard.

Here is a suggested possibility of a proper response to retain your 
rights to not be searched and seized by the USA corporation or local 
agent offering to "protect" you.

Option of a possible response based upon my and others' understanding 
and reading of court findings revolving around exactly at what point 
you give up your Constitutional non-search & seizure rights:

In the real world, asserting your rights politely usually only works if 
your rights are respected by a higher-up who knows the legal score, and 
you  answer no question ever.  Not in detention, not in jail, ever. At 
some point someone somewhere in the chain knows this truthful 
information - while the practical full loss of all rights in an 
executive  dictatorship for our own good is not in effect.

"How are you today, sir?" This is a trained ploy to elicit 'proper' 
response without the officer even knowing why. He is not told the whole 
truth and is simply told to start the investigation by asking...so as 
to "be friendly."

Any answer or giving up of documents at any point makes you 
"participating in an investigation" - unless you answer ONLY in the 
form of a QUESTION.

Example: smile, and politely ask "Who is asking and why?" 
This immediately determines the encounter status and 
whether the person is acting in their private or public capacity.

If you ANSWER, you have automatically given up all rights. Once given 
up, they cannot be restored. Because "Once you testify in part you must 
testify in whole."

If taken against your will, you can come back later and win.

Be friendly, be polite.

"I respectfully do not consent to this encounter. If I had and gave you 
such documents can they be used against me in a court of law? 
Would you please inform your supervisor what I just said? Am I free to go?" 
(Immediately determines your status.)

Theoretically, this applies not just to airports, but roadblocks, 
traffic stops, street encounters = they are all the same.
